    Haibin DUAN (M'07-SM'08) was born in Shandong, China. He is currently a professor(2012.7~) and Ph.D. supervisor(2009.7~) with Beihang University (BUAA), the Head of Bio-inspired Autonomous Flight Systems(BAFS) Research Group, School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, Beihang University. He received his Ph.D. degree from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) in 2005. He was an academic visitor of National University of Singapore (NUS)(2007), a senior visiting scholar of The University of Suwon (USW) of South Korea(2011), an engineer of AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Design Research Institute (2006.2~2006.8), and a technician of AVIC Aeroengine Control Research Institute (1996~2000). He is the Founder and Editor-in-chief of "International Journal of Intelligent Computing and Cybernetics" (IJICC). He is the inventor of the Pigeon-Inspired Optimization metaheuristic for continuous optimization problems.

The aim of our research group is try to bring "Impossible" to "I'm Possible". BAFS Research Group mainly focuse on bio-inspired computation(swarm intelligence), biological computer vision, flight systems modeling and intelligent flight control, and their applications in multiple Unmanned Aircraft Systems(UAS).

  • "Feng Ru Cup" Innovation Practice for Undergraduate Student

    "Feng Ru Cup" Academic Science and Technology Work Competition is an annual extra-curricular competition for undergraduates in Beihang University, which is in commemoration of Feng Ru, the first Chinese plane designer and pilot. More than half of the undergraduates in Beihang University have the cherished experiences of "Feng Ru Cup".

    As an advisor of "Feng Ru Cup", I have supervised more than 50 groups of undergraduate students to practice with research projects from 2007. In the 18th Beihang University "Feng Ru Cup" Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, 1 group of my undergraduate teams won the 1st prize, 2 groups won the 2nd prize of university level, and 3 groups won the 3rd prize of university level. In the 19th "Feng Ru Cup" Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, 3 groups won the 2nd prize of university level, and 2 groups won the 3rd prize of university level. In the 20th "Feng Ru Cup" Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, 1 group won the 2nd prize of university level, and 3 groups won the 3rd prize of university level. In the 21th "Feng Ru Cup" Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, 3 group won the 2nd prize of university level, and 4 groups won the 3rd prize of university level. In the 22th "Feng Ru Cup" Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, 1 group won the 1st prize of university level, 4 group won the 2nd prize of university level, and 3 groups won the 3rd prize of university level. Among them, 8 groups have been funded by "Science Research Training Program" Foundation of Ministry of Education of China, and 16 groups has been funded by "Science Research Training Program" Foundation of Beihang University. More than 90% of them have been recommended for graduate (M.Sci or Ph.D.) study without examination.
